DIY Wood Planter
Spring is just around the corner and that means warmer weather, flowering blooms and bright colors. I can't wait for the the days get a little longer, for the trees to fill in with new leaves and for all of the outdoor celebrations that await us. With this wonderful season nearly upon us, I've been thinking about ways to incorporate more plant life into my indoor and outdoor spaces. I came up with this simple and modern planter that can be used both inside and outside. Here what you need make your own:
Supplies: 1. Edge banding (edge banding is a wood veneer found in the lumber section of your hardware store.) 2. A can from soup or canned vegetables. 3. Stain (I used Minwax Special Walnut) 4. Scissors 5. Ruler 6. Hot Glue Gun (not pictured) 7. An Old Rag (to apply the stain)
Step 1: Measure and cut the edge banding into strips long enough to fit around the circumference of the can. Then measure the height of the can to see how many strips you'll need. I needed 6 strips that were 11" long.
Step 2: Stain half of your edge banding strips by following the directions on the can of stain. I rubbed the stain on the strips using an old rag and allowed them to dry for about 15 minutes before attaching them to the can.
Step 3: Adhere the strips to the can using the hot glue. Edge Banding has a heat activated glue on the back so you won't need very much hot glue. When you add the hot glue, the glue on the back of the banding will be activated, giving you a stronger hold. Be sure to place the strip where you want it quickly because the glue dries very fast. Continue gluing on the strips until the can is completely covered.
Step 4: Place your favorite indoor or outdoor plant inside and choose a spot to display it. I chose to plant a succulent in mine.
This whole project took me about 35 minutes to complete and that includes the 15 minute drying time for the stain. This planter was really very simple to make. I hope you enjoy making one for your own home. Have a great day! -blessings, Brittany

Snapshots from my Weekend: Yard Work+Date Night
Happy Monday Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. My weekend was pretty enjoyable. It started with breakfast at home with my hubby on Friday. I made Eggs Benedict and conquered my fear of poaching eggs. I've never even tried making poached eggs because they seemed so technically difficult, but all of my eggs came out perfectly. I owe my egg poaching success to this video of the culinary genius, Alton Brown. I followed the steps exactly and they were actually pretty easy. Saturday was spent working on installing sprinklers in the yard. This is a huge first step in our yard construction process. We've been working for several weekends digging trenches, planning, measuring and calculating. And this weekend we finally saw some results. We were so excited about the progress, that we decided to celebrate by going out to dinner. Then we came home and I made beignets for dessert.
We ended the weekend by spending Sunday at church. Our pastor gave a message from 2 Corinthians Chapter 4. You can listen to it here. I spent Sunday evening working on projects for a friend's wedding and preparing this post to share with you. Overall, It was a very rewarding weekend. We finally made some progress on our yard and got to spend some much needed time together. How was your weekend? Share with me in the comments. I would love to hear about it. Have a great day! -blessings, Brittany

PRODUCTS: Fort Standard
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week. I especially loved sharing some of my favorite home decor lines with you this week. I'm ending the week by sharing some amazing products from Fort Standard. Fort Standard is a design studio that designs and creates contemporary pieces for the home. I chose to feature their work because it is super modern, but warm enough to still create a homey atmosphere. Too often ultra-modern pieces can evoke a cold feeling for the home, but the design duo over at Fort Standard have found a way to masterfully combine modern design and warmth. You can visit their site here to see more of their work or visit the shop for information on how to purchase these items for your home. I hope you have a great weekend! -blessings, Brittany

PRODUCTS: Asleep from Day
This week I'm sharing some of my favorite products for your home. Yesterday I shared textile, tabletop and decor items from Wolfum home based in Los Angeles. Today I'm sharing some tabletop ceramic items from Asleep from Day, a ceramics line from Paris, France. I first discovered Asleep from Day ceramics when I was browsing through items on Etsy a couple of months ago and I was immediately taken with the pastel colors, geometric shapes and use of animal silhouettes. The tray image above was the first piece I saw from Asleep from Day's shop and made me fall in love with the line. Checkout some more of the images below. I'll be back tomorrow to share another product for your home. What are some of your favorite items for your home? Share with me in the comments. Have a great day! -blessings, Brittany
