DIY Heart Garland

Today is the first post in a mini series entitled, "Be My Modern Valentine."  From now until Valentine's Day I'll feature DIY projects, decorating tips and recipes that offer a more modern spin on traditional Valentine's Day ideas.  Instead of using the traditional reds, whites and pinks often associated with this holiday, we'll use a more modern palette of mustard and Gray.  Today's DIY project is this lovely felt heart garland.  Follow the steps below to make your very own garland for your home.

Supplies needed:
1. Two different colors of felt or any other fabric of your choice
2. A box cutter or exacto knife
3. Fabric Scissors
4. A colored pencil or fabric marker
5. String, twine or ribbon
6. A heart pattern

Layout a piece of felt and trace hearts onto the felt.  Then, cut out your hearts. Make enough hearts to span the length of the area where you would like to hang your garland.

Cut two slits into your pattern piece using the box cutter or exacto knife.

Then cut the slits in your hearts with the exacto knife using the pattern piece as a guide.  This will ensure that your slits are the same size and  in the same place on every heart.

String your hearts together using your twine, rope, ribbon or string.

Hang your garland and you're done! I hope you enjoy this short tutorial.  Have a great day! -blessings, Brittany
